Athens Welcomes TBEX 2014

Athens welcomes the important international meeting of travel bloggers and tourism media and writers.

This year’s event in Athens is the biggest international gathering of travel bloggers, writers, and new media content creators from approximately 50 countries.  It constitutes a significant success and especially in a year where—as data from the past 8 months indicate—the Greek capital is returning dynamically to the international tourism map. 

The Travel Bloggers Exchange – TBEX Europe 2014 is taking place at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre from the 23rd to the 25th of October and is organized by the City of Athens, the Ministry of Tourism, the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency of the City of Athens (ADDMA), and the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB).  The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is co-organizer. 

The 4-day presence in Athens of hundreds of travel bloggers, writers, and new media content creators of the international tourism market offers a unique opportunity to showcase the Greek capital as an attractive year-round city break destination.  It constitutes the biggest and most demanding media event which the city has hosted until now. 

Athens will welcome the participants to the biggest tourism event with a series of unique and multi-faceted fam trips, events, and sponsorships. 

On October 23rd, the first day of TBEX Europe 2014, the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) of the City of Athens along with the cooperation of Frontstage and Athinorama, will host a welcome party for participants at the Technopolis of the City of Athens.  There will be a multicenter of Greek Gastronomy and of Culture and Leisure which will be set up, where artists’ exhibitions with the support of NEON organization will be presented, documentaries regarding Greek culture, tourism and history will be screened and a concert of contemporary Greek music will take place.  At the same time there will be Greek food samplings from Farmer’s Republic, Mani-Mani, Aleria, Nomadic cuisine as well as Greek wine-tastings. 

On the second day of the event, the party of the grand international TBEX 2014 sponsor (Expedia) will take place while on Saturday October 25th, the farewell party will take place, organized by the Athens Traders Association along with the ship-owners of the Pandrossou Street Market.  This will entail a Street Party with food, drinks as well as musical and artistic happenings by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (OPANDA) along with the participation of artists of the Greek National Opera.  The evening will culminate at Agias Eirinis Square. 

For participants at TBEX Europe 2014, approximately 70 special itineraries have been prepared which have already been uploaded on the website which the ACVB specially created for TBEX at . These itineraries are directed to bloggers, so that depending on their personal preferences, they will have the opportunity to visit different parts of metropolitan Athens.  They will be able to learn about the high level of services and infrastructure of the city, and in this way promote, through their experience, Athens’ tourism product. 

After the completion of TBEX, fam trips will be organized in cooperation with the GNTO in other parts of Greece, such as Pelion/Volos, the Peloponnese and Epirus.  Visitmeteora will organize a fam trip to Meteora, the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau a fam trip to Thessaloniki and Louis Cruises will organize a cruise in the Cyclades. 
The mobilization of organizations and businesses who strove to sponsor the special requirements of TBEX Europe is impressive.  The GNTO is co-organizer of TBEX 2014 while up to the present, Platinum Sponsors are the Athens International Airport, Aegean Airlines as well as the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA). 
The Ministry of Culture and Sports will donate tickets for free entrance to all the archaeological sites and museums of Greece, while at the same time the Athens Urban Transport Organization will donate tickets for all means of transport.  The Athens International Airport will donate Athens Spotlight cards, the Municipality of Kalymnos will donate sponges, Mastic Spa will donate shampoos and bubble baths, the Greek Wine Federation will donate bottles of wine from its members, the Athens Classic Marathon-SEGAS will sponsor t-shirts with themed Marathon logos, and the Technopolis of the City of Athens is giving all its spaces for the organization of the welcome party of ACVB as well as the welcome bags.
